Exhibition Concept "Sicli Pavilion Workshop"
This workshop given at the students from the Art & Design school of Geneva "HEAD" aimed to develop an exhibition unit and social catalyst for the Sicli Pavilion in Geneva designed by the great engineer Heinz Isler in 1969. I had the chance to be tutoring together with Leopold Banchini and Daniel Zamarbide from "bureau A". A diamond shaped frame was designed and five different ways to occupy it were proposed. One was chosen to be built in 1:1. Many thanks to the great students who have been working their ass off day and night. Adriana Toro, Morgane Zueger, Paolo Gnazzo, Fausto Cavaleri and Fabio Stefanoni.

RATIONAL IRRATIONAL facts
The wasteland is an environment where every space and all physical aspects, every movement and
activity have been carefully planed, designed and drawn. The production that once took place in this
environment was the ultimate incarnation of rationality. The production has stopped, the place
fallen into redundancy leaving behind a space that is looking for a new future.
We, the inhabitants of the wasteland which we created ourselves, are thinking, moving, living still
according our rational view of the world. Left behind in the wasteland we venture out on a scientific
expedition to the last place that is still untouched by our radical transformations. There we are
hoping to find access to our irrational past, intuition and wilderness. With our scientific ingenuity
we design devices that will isolate individual aspects that exist only in this environment. The
devices collect and store the data and constitute the vessel in which we will bring back what we
were looking for.
At our return to the wasteland we carefully analyse the collected data and struggle to put the puzzle
pieces back together. We try to recreate the environment that we found on our expedition using the
materials and methods that are proper to us. Again we aim to create something that is planned and
measured in every detail, just like the wasteland. But this time it is our hope that it will reveal the
irrational world that we have lost in our aim for efficiency. After days of discussion, drawing,
making, and hard labour we erect the temple of our new religion, the PIIKKISIKA.
It is a place where we go to meditate, a place for isolation and reflection. Its only purpose is to tell
the story of that place that is so different from the wasteland. It's long antenna wave in the wind,
picking up the distant flows. The movement is diverted into the interior where we can read it's
message in the unpredictable movement.
